Challenging Passage (John 17:1-11)

This week we are plowing through Jesus praying to be glorified. This week is going to be a real challenge. I am looking forward to it. I like to have an idea of where the passage is heading before the week of, but a clear picture has not yet formed. Please post any thoughts, images, etc.. that you have on this passage. I will do so a little bit later or tomorrow.

Paraclete (One who comes along side…)

Allright, I feel like an idiot. I just cried in Starbucks. I did it discreetly but I will admit I shed a few tears. I’ve been searching for an image of how the Holy Spirit Comes along side us. Isn’t the point of preaching to leave the people with an image of what the scriptures are trying to communicate? I remembered a video i had seen years ago and have posted it below. I will be using it or a variation of it at the end of the sermon this week to leave our people with a picture of how the Paraclete/ Spirit of Truth/Holy Spirit/The One who comes along side works in our lives.

Emmaus Road Video Option

I am considering using the following video. I will edit it down a bit to shave some stuff off the end, but it goes along beautifully with the Emmaus Road passage. I won’t give too much away, let me know if you see the connection.

Easter – Pentecost

levi and i have already put together 2 series from the lectionary. the first began this past sunday, of course: ALIVE. this will follow the gospel passages and will be for 3 weeks (March 23-April 6). After that we begin a 5-week series that will lead us to pentecost. it will be following the gospel passages in John of Jesus telling his disciples that he will be with them forever, and that even when he leaves he will send the spirit. this series is called “unLONE.” if you want any of the graphics just let me know and i’ll change the dates, times, etc.

here we are boys

this is a blog where we are going to be discussing creative ways of using the lectionary. our plan is to figure out ways of “packaging” scriptures into a series (finding arcs in the storylines), as well as throwing out ideas of what kinds of tools (songs, movie clips, etc.) we can use in the services.

we don’t all have to do the same thing but whatever idea levi and i decide on for our situation, i will be creating artwork for it (logo, slides, backgrounds, maybe postcards, etc.). eventually we’d like to ad video to the package as well (sermon intros, man-on-the-street, etc.). theworkofthepeople.com is also a great resource for videos.

if there is anyone out there that you know who uses lectionary and would be interested in joining the discussion, let me know and i’ll give them an invite to the blog.

we’re gonna keep this blog private so we can be blunt about our ideas, as well as retain it’s cool factor from our groups.

go ahead and share your thoughts about what you would like to see happen with this blog and next week we will begin our discussion for sundays after pentecost.
